Launching a Book into the World by MBT
The time that many people have been waiting for has finally arrived. I have become a blogger and now after years of thinking, writing, and hard work my first publicly available book is out for public consumption on www.mybodyisaprayer.com; I am both happy and expectant. It reminds me of a time when I was working for a designer who was unveiling her new first collection of clothing...
Soni told me that I was wise and Oprahesque, "Although, you are not 50," she said to me. I was thankful that I was able to give her confidence, solace, and support in those few moments before the show. She taught me something about myself. I was thinking about how interesting it was that a model that really had no power over her what so ever was able to play the role of angel. While I know the statement in and of it’s self seems self praising, it really is not. I’m acknowledging that I was a vehicle for something more than who I am in that moment.
There was silence. There was nudity on both parts; I was sitting waiting to be given the dress she was ironing for me to wear for the show. Her nudity was in admitting that she was afraid of what people would think about her work. But I offered comfort by saying, “It’s already done. You’ve already designed the pieces. They stand on their own now because they are already created. Let them be…”
Thirty minutes after our talk, the procession of models began and the show was a success. It was a very happy time. My shoe acted up a bit on the runway but I pulled it off. This time, I reflect on my own creation with the same anticipation and expectation. My Body is a Prayer, a book containing very intimate and vulnerable thoughts, inspirations, feelings and pleas to God, is my creation. I now release it to the world in the hopes that there are points of nexus between its audience and its contents.
